We look forward to welcoming you to our site, here is a brief history of how we were founded and have grown:
- Kantankye Campsite was founded by the late Brian and Brenda Edge. Brian was a scout leader in the 1950s and Brenda a cub leader, they met and got married in 1960. David was born in 1964 and he became a cub until the age of 11 and then a sea scout, the only one in Lincolnshire to get a camp warden badge.
- In 1974 the family moved to Thorpe St Peter. On the original site there was very little other than the old cottage dating back to the 1700s and the barn and astonishing to believe now there were no trees!
- In 1983 part of the wooden scout hut was erected and as time went by this was added to. Brian was very artistic with his work all around the site and in the scout hut.
- David began an outdoor pursuits, canoeing and hill walking business hence the canoes you may see around the site. At this point more people began to come including Duke of Edinburgh groups, scouts, schools and various other youth groups.
- In the early 90s caravans began to come onsite, the Land Rover club as well as the first rallies which now continue today in great number.
- Scout groups have always and will be a fundamental feature and the site is regularly closed for periods to allow them to have exclusive use.
- Brian and Brenda sadly passed away in the last few years leaving the running of the site to David and wife Pat.
- The site continues to develop and grow - despite the elements we are sure you will agree the surroundings continue to look better with each year and the trees continue to mature. More landscaping is underway with new pathways and signage to help guests.
- In 2017 Pat's son (James) opened the first rental offering on site in the form of a touring caravan which has welcomed numerous guests from places as far flung as Taiwan!
- In 2018 we opened a children's play area which has been incredibly popular.
- There are more exciting developments underway with new showers being built and more rental options being added to the site so we can welcome more people to our quiet and attractive location!
